Gallet, ‘Doctors’ watch, Ref.: CW931, manual wound, ca. 1933

Very rare, case of rolled yellow gold over brass. So called ‘doctors’ dress watch. Snap watch case back in rolled gold over brass. Outside engraved with ‘Bob to Edna – 1934 -‘, inside stamped with production number ‘125821’. Case showing typical, linear ‘Art Deco’ decoration on sides, crown side showing remnants of soldering. Two tone, patinated, silver dial separated into two vertical, square sectors. Upper sector showing hours and minutes, surrounded by a square printed ‘railway’ minute track containing Arabic numerals. Lower sector with round track for showing seconds, marked ‘Swiss’ at low left border. All original blued steel hands. Original gold plated crown.
Movement: Gallet caliber (unspecified), decorated with longitudinal stripes, manual wound, 7 jewels, unnumbered, no shock protection. Movement signed ‘Gallet & Co’.
Dimensions: Width: 21, lug – lug: 38.2, strap width at lug: 12.8mm
Strap: Hand made, recto: shiny brown leather (toad, Australia), verso: black leather (goat, Germany) with gold plated brass buckle, vintage, style and age matched to the watch, but unbranded, from the 1930/40ies..
Additional info: Gallet was a very important watch manufacturer during WWII, specialising in Chronographs. This watch although of small size, was made as a ‘gent’s’ watch as shown on the picture of a period advertisement for this model below (with slightly different hands and dial). Very few of watches of this type survive from the manufacturer Gallet.

‘Doctors watch’ is a misleading term, as these type of watches have not been made specifically for medical use, even if this purpose has been promoted in advertisements of the time.
Please note: All pieces of this watch are original to it, except the crystal and the strap.

Vulcain, Meteor II, self winding, 1960s

Gilt (20 micron) brass cased dress watch. Screw down stainless steel case back, outside stamped with production info. Original, silvered dial printed in black ‘Vulcain’ at ’12’ and ‘Meteor II Automatic’ at ‘6’. Black printed minute track and raised gilt, multifaceted hour markers. Raised, gilt Vulcain logo at ’12’. Date window at ‘3’. Original gold plated brass crown with losses. Original gilt hands partially with black details. Original crystal with intruding date lens.
Movement: ETA 2472
Dimensions: Diam: 35, lug – lug: 42.5, strap width at lugs: 19mm
Strap: Generic black calf leather strap with generic gilt buckle.
Additional Info: The condition of this watch is amazing and its design is staggering. The details on the lugs remind the long gone Art Deco period. Unfortunately Gio was not able to open the case back and he would like to avoid applying too much force to open it. A sticking rubber gasket might be the most probable reason. Priced accordingly.

LIP, ‘Baschmakoff’, self winding, 1971/72

Rare, plated base metal cased watch. Screwed stainless steel case back. Inside of the case back marked with company info. Outside of the case back marked with watch features. Stainless steel brace for bracelet or strap retention, featuring stamped firm logo. Small, original, white printed, black rotating discs for hours, minutes and seconds. Original, small acrylic crystal with red, horizontal line for time reading. Original crown.
Movement: R 879 / A.S. 1902
Dimensions: Diam.: 34, lug – lug: 34.7, strap width at lugs: n.a.
Strap: Brown, custom, hand made strap (round scale alligator stamped calf).
Additional Info: This is an iconic design by Prince Francois de Baschmakoff for LIP, Besançon. Normally this version would have had a rather stiff metal bracelet, which makes the watch wearable only for larger wrists. This version features an automatic movement whereas most of these watches and later versions have a hand wound movement. We have added a fancy custom made strap, which can be adapted to the future owner. The price reflects the lacking original bracelet and some dents in the bracelet/strap retaining brace.
